TREAT-??The machine above is not an animation loop with random winners. Every token is a rigid disk with mass, every contact is a tiny spring with a damper, and the shelf grips each token with Coulomb friction. The code solves Newton's second law for every body, 960 times per second.
A token resting on the shelf stays put until the push on it beats the grip of the glass. Our shelf uses a friction coefficient of 0.35, close to brass sliding on coated glass.

When two disks overlap by a depth δ, they push apart along the line between their centers. The damper term eats the bounce, so tokens settle instead of ringing.

The pusher never touches the front row. Its stroke loads a chain of tokens wedged against each other, and the push travels through those chains, fanning out at roughly 60 degrees, until it reaches a token hanging over the edge.

Friction makes the pile static, so it only moves when the pusher has something new to push. Area is conserved: a jumbo token covers about 3.2 regular tokens, so on average one jumbo pushes three tokens' worth of area over the edge, a few at a time.
Ajumbo / Atoken = (16 / 9)² ≈ 3.2Drop while the pusher pulls back: your token lands in the gap and rides the full 72 mm stroke, straight into the pile. Drop while it is forward and the token squeezes into the back row at an angle, which sends more of the push out to the side gutters.
Pink lines mark the contacts that carry load during one forward stroke. Most tokens in the pile carry almost nothing: the force rides a few lucky chains, which is why the same drop can win two tokens or six. That uncertainty is real physics, not a rigged random number.
Numerical method: semi-implicit Euler, which is symplectic and stays stable for stiff contacts, at a fixed step of 1/240 s split into four substeps. A neighbor grid keeps the cost linear in the number of bodies.
